Metroid Dread is now available and we touched on this title with the hope that it will take us in the field of survival / horror games, which it certainly does. However, this element has somehow always been present in the Metroid games. Samus is dropped on a mysterious planet, deprived of his weapons and abilities she needs to survive.
The horror element comes from the feeling of tension and the constant trapping of the new EMMI enemy. The mechanical nature of the game also creates this feeling. Check Samus and use his weapons is a very complex procedure. Hold down several keys to select a weapon, while aiming and remaining motionless can be tense, especially when a mortal enemy rushes to you.
As far as survival is concerned, you may not do much. There is a mix of difficult but indulgent areas throughout the game. Boss fights are difficult, but once you have understood and learned the secrets while dying again and again, they become safe enough.
The persistent threat of the EMMI is also a current killer, but the checkpoints are pretty generous, showing you just outside an EMMI zone. Being killed by Emmi is also fast enough, so you can learn from your mistakes and come back directly.
If you can find the time to relax at any time, you should take into account your environment. Not only are the environments are creative in terms of level design, but they are also very beautiful, if you can enjoy it in a game as tense as Metroid Dread.
