AIK's Choice is an autonomous DLC for Shadow Tactics: Blade of the Shogun 2015. Mimi mi Games specializes in hardcore tactical games with stealthy element. Hi, AIK's Choice is pretty hardcore and stimulating. But it's also very fun, once you vibrate with its mechanics.
From what I understand, financial problems prevented AIK's Choice from appearing earlier. The developer had to move on to his next project, Desperado 3, so they made a choice for AIK (understood?) Attentive. As a result, the consoles and their sophisticated technology have evolved. The DLC is only on PC.
If you have not played the basic game, you might have trouble. It took me some time to prepare AIK's Choice, his orders and tactics, as well as a little viewing of gameplay videos. There is a tutorial but it's pretty brief. I think the game expects you to know what you are doing. Do not know the characters and their stories is also a little disappointing, although the game has a decent introduction video.
AIK's Choice consists of three substantial missions and three shorter interning. The game takes place during the Do period in Japan, and history focuses on the relationship between AIK and its former mentor, Lady Chico. You control the same five basic game characters. Everyone naturally has a particular force. AIK, for example, is talented for furtive eliminations with blades. Other characters use remote weapons, are tanks or are masters of the sword handling.
AIK's Choice definitely has a diabolically difficult puzzle element, while you find the best way to move your team through each level. The enemies have immense cones of consciousness, and create a hitch and bring a swarm of guards means a certain failure. The game takes place in real time, but you can use the shadow mode to queue an action by character, which they execute in concert. When it works, it's very satisfying. When this is not the case, well it's up to you.
The levels of the game seem simple, but they are really complex paths of paths, hiding places, secret passages and alternative routes. Add to that a lot of traps, weapons and capabilities of your character, and it is clear to which AIK's Choice can be superimposed. Some games offer many ways to succeed. AIK's choice the book. It is also a game that uses specific characters to solve particular situations.
AIK's Choice looks exactly like the basic game. It is an isometric view to the third person and the artistic style is charming and painted by hand. Because it's pictorial and stylized, the six-year gap is less a problem than it would be if the game had a more realistic approach. Still, it feels just a little late, and sometimes the design embarrasses the reading of level details. The camera can also be less friendly.
The dubbing of the game is excellent, just like his music. Both are used sparingly. Although Biko's Choice is first a tactical infiltration game, there are real emotional beats in history and some surprises. Without playing the main game, I can only guess some relational complications at stake. But it's a satisfactory story in itself.
I suspect that even familiar players with Blade of the Shogun will be challenged by AIK's Choice. It's just part of the game DNA. Those who did not play the original should prepare for a steep learning curve and some frustration. AIK's Choice assumes — probably with reason — that players will know characters and mechanisms.
New and old players will be challenged by AIK's Choice, but the rewards are worth it. Effectively finish the missions of the game is satisfactory in the same way as to solve a difficult puzzle. Added to this are the art and music of the game, a distribution of endearing characters and an interesting story. I suggest, however, starting by playing the basic game, if only to become familiar with the mechanics. Too bad it does not welcome new players a little more, but those who persevere will be rewarded. For the fans of the original, the extension has been worthwhile to wait.
